Reports and interviews
At B2, the listening section stops testing whether you caught a single fact and starts testing whether you can follow an argument. A radio report or an interview unfolds over a minute or more: a journalist sets up a topic, a guest develops a position, qualifies it, and sometimes contradicts it. Your job is to track the thread, separate the main idea from the supporting detail, and read between the lines.

You cannot write down everything, and you should not try. Listen for signposting words that announce structure: d'abord (first), ensuite (next), en revanche (however), donc (so), en conclusion (in conclusion). Jot only the speaker, the position, and one keyword per idea. Use arrows and abbreviations rather than full sentences; the page is a map of the argument, not a transcript.

The journalist reformulates the guest's stance to confirm it.
Skill: inference
Speakers rarely state their opinion outright. They imply it through tone, through what they choose to stress, and through hedging expressions. When a guest says il faudrait peut-être nuancer (we should perhaps qualify that), they are politely disagreeing. Learning to infer the unsaid position is the difference between a B1 and a B2 score.
