TEF Canada strategy
TEF Canada strategy
At B2, your French is no longer the main obstacle: the exam itself is. The TEF Canada rewards candidates who understand how each section is scored and who deploy the right tactic at the right moment. This lesson treats the test as an opponent whose patterns you can learn, so that you arrive on exam day with a plan rather than improvising.

How the scoring works
Each of the four skills is scored on its own scale and then mapped to a CLB level (Canadian Language Benchmark). The two written and the two oral sections (production and comprehension) range up to a cap that the IRCC then converts. Reading and Listening comprehension are marked out of 360 at the top tier; Written and Spoken expression are marked out of 450. Knowing these ceilings tells you where a single careless error costs you the most.

Section tactics
For reading comprehension, never read the passage before the questions: skim the questions first, then hunt the text for the answer. Watch the clock, since questions get longer toward the end. For written expression, section A asks you to continue a news item and section B to argue a position; spend two minutes planning before you write a word, and reserve the final three minutes to reread for agreement and tense errors.
