Shopping brings together prices, quantities and polite exchange. Ask the price with Combien ça coûte ? or C'est combien ? Point things out with the demonstratives ce (m), cette (f), ces (pl): ce pain, cette pomme, ces fruits.

Quantities and demonstratives
Quantities use de: un kilo de pommes, une bouteille d'eau (no article after de). Demonstratives agree with the noun: ce fromage, cette baguette, ces tomates. Before a masculine vowel, ce becomes cet: cet abricot.
