Possessives agree with the thing owned, not the owner: mon père (m), ma mère (f), mes parents (pl). The big trap for English speakers: son / sa means his or her, the choice depends on the noun's gender, not on who owns it. So sa mère = his mother AND her mother. One more: before a vowel, ma becomes mon, mon amie.
