Introducing yourself
Introducing yourself is the very first thing you do in the speaking test. Four building blocks cover it: your name (je m'appelle), your nationality or job (je suis), where you live (j'habite à) and where you are from (je viens de). Put them together and you have a clean self-introduction.

My name is Marie.
Nationalities and many jobs change with gender. A man is canadien, a woman is canadienne; a male student is étudiant, a female student is étudiante. The feminine usually adds -e (and often doubles the consonant). Also note: after je suis + a job, French uses no article: « Je suis professeur », not « je suis un professeur ».
