Asking for practical info
When you travel, you often need to ask a stranger for help: where the station is, when the next bus leaves, how much a ticket costs. To sound natural and polite in French, you start with Bonjour and you turn your question into a soft, polite request. This lesson gives you the words and the polite forms you need to manage a trip and get the practical information you want.

Grammar: polite questions
A direct question like Où est la gare ? is correct, but it can sound abrupt to a stranger. To be polite, French speakers wrap the question in a soft opener. The most useful ones are Excusez-moi, ..., Pardon, ..., Est-ce que vous savez... ? and Pourriez-vous me dire... ?. With these, you keep vous and you almost always start with Bonjour.

Grammar: the pronoun en
The pronoun en replaces a thing introduced by de or a quantity, so you do not repeat yourself. When someone asks Vous voulez des billets ? you can answer Oui, j'en veux deux. (yes, I want two of them). It also works with verbs like avoir besoin de: J'ai besoin d'un horaire becomes J'en ai besoin. Notice that en goes before the verb.
