Ordering is a common speaking role-play. The polite formula is Je voudrais (I would like) + what you want + s'il vous plaît. Use un / une for countable things (un café, une salade) and the partitive du / de la for an unspecified amount (du thé, de l'eau).

Always open with Bonjour and use vous, the server is a stranger. Je voudrais is softer than je veux (I want), which sounds blunt. To ask for the bill: L'addition, s'il vous plaît.
