Present tense -er verbs
Most French verbs end in -er (parler, habiter, travailler, aimer), and they all follow one pattern. Drop the -er and add the ending for each person. This single pattern unlocks hundreds of verbs, it is the most useful thing you will learn at A1.

Endings: -e, -es, -e, -ons, -ez, -ent. Careful: -e, -es and -ent all sound the same (silent), so je parle, tu parles and ils parlent are pronounced identically. To make a verb negative, wrap it in ne ... pas: Je ne parle pas anglais. Before a vowel, ne becomes n': Je n'aime pas.
